In the past twenty-three months, 82.5\% (57,619,800 acre-feet) of the fresh water that flowed into the Delta continued on to the ocean and became unusable saltwater. Just 15\% (10,494,700 acre-feet) of that fresh water was captured in storage. The amount of water flowing out through the San Francisco Bay is exponentially more than what is required to prevent saltwater intrusion-a necessity for which we all agree water must be used. For perspective, one acre-foot is a year's worth of water for about 10 people and 25 million people rely on the Delta for their water. The amount of water in the ocean in less than two years is equal to 23.04 years worth of water for the 25 million who depend on the Delta for water. Meanwhile, prepare to ration your household down to 50 gallons per person per day, while water rates skyrocket.
